Effect of epithalon on the lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster and mice — replication and extension of telomerase activation data[1]
This study evaluated epithalon's effect on longevity in two model organisms: Drosophila melanogaster and female outbred mice. Repeated administration of epithalon extended mean lifespan by 11-13% in Drosophila and 13.3% in the mouse cohort compared to age-matched controls. In the mouse study, the peptide was evaluated via daily subcutaneous injection for four months each year across the lifespan. Histological analysis of mice that died naturally in the investigated group showed lower rates of malignant neoplasms and better-preserved endocrine tissue architecture relative to controls.

Epithalon activates telomerase and lengthens telomeres in human somatic cells in culture[2]
Khavinson and colleagues conducted this in vitro study to test whether epithalon could reactivate telomerase in human senescent cell lines that had lost telomerase activity. Epithalon at 10 nM concentration produced measurable telomerase activity (assessed by the TRAP assay) in two human somatic cell strains that had been serially passaged to late passage numbers. Telomere length, measured by terminal restriction fragment analysis, increased by 0.6-1.3 kb in investigated cultures over 14 days compared to untreated controls. These results provided cell-biology evidence for the telomerase activation mechanism proposed in longevity studies.
